City Covers Baby Firdaus’ Treatment Costs

Muhammad Firdaus was born on Sunday (11/30) at 4.05 PM in Koja Sub-District Community Health Center (Puskesmas), North Jakarta, with a disorder called multi-organ congenital. His left hand only has two fingers, no sole on right foot, and scalp from the fontanel to the back is not perfectly formed.

Because of Firdaus’ conditions, Koja Puskesmas on Sunday (11/30) referred the baby to Koja General Hospital (RSUD). But due to inadequate medical facilities and lack of specialists, Koja RSUD then referred Firdaus to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

“We’re only type-B hospital and does not have perinatologist (concerns in high-risk pregnancies, red.). That’s why we referred him to RSCM,” uttered Koja RSUD Service Deputy Director, Theryoto, Tuesday (12/2).

However, RSCM claimed that the baby does not in a state of emergency and does not need intensive treatment in RSCM. Thus, Firdaus was sent back to Koja RSUD.

“We are worried of other congenital abnormalities that could be fatal. But, we’re still coordinating with RSCM for Firdaus’ handling,” he told.

Unfortunately, Theryoto cannot explain why RSCM did not recommend treatment for Firdaus.

“For RSCM’s handling, please confirm about it directly to them,” he said.

To monitor and observe Firdaus’ conditions, the baby is now treated in Koja RSUD Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). All of his treatment costs are covered by Jakarta Provincial Government.

“Indeed, because of his disorder, the baby needs intensive treatment and observations. We are aware of the disorder, especially on his head. Koja RSUD prioritizes treatment first, cost is last. At this time, BPJS (Social Security Administrative Body) for Firdaus has been made and his treatment costs are covered by Jakarta Provincial Government,” stated Theryoto.
